The proposed construction of a single-house site at Lough Gur led to a request for an archaeological impact assessment to include test excavation. The house site is situated on elevated ground to the south of the lake overlooking the marsh known locally as the Red Bog. Four test-trenches were placed in those areas of the development which were subjected to maximum ground disturbance. These were all excavated to a level below the natural boulder clay and no features of archaeological significance were noted in any of the investigated areas.
