Further testing of a proposed development site at Lord Edward Street, Kilmallock, was undertaken in response to a further information request by the planning authority. Four trenches were excavated on the site to the line of the suspected medieval town wall. The foundation of the town wall was uncovered in Trenches 1–3 and was shown to be located directly under the standing boundary wall of the site.
The western edge of the possible 'mural ditch' detected during initial testing of the site (see No. 1013, Excavations 2004) was also uncovered in Trench 3. The width of the feature at this point in the site is c. 3m (east-west), while a section excavated through the ditch showed it to measure at least 0.8m in depth. No datable finds were recovered from the ditch that would suggest a date for its period of use.
The testing also demonstrated the presence of a wide, relatively shallow cut feature in Trenches 2 and 3 located immediately east of the town wall. The excavation of two sections through this feature did not yield any datable artefacts nor were the eastern limits of the cut determined. The relationship of this feature to the ditch in Trench 3 was also unclear.
