An assessment was carried out on 8 December 2004 in advance of site works at Cluainreask, Askeaton, Co. Limerick. The location of the development lies just outside of the zone of archaeological potential for the town of Askeaton.
Three trenches of varying length were excavated by machine to sterile ground. The site comprises the western part of two back-garden plots owned by the developer. The results of testing suggest considerable 19th- and 20th-century activity on the site and serious disturbance within the occupied life of the artisans' dwellings. Testing produced no evidence for activity prior to the 19th century.
