Test-trenching in conjunction with an assessment was undertaken at the site in advance of the construction of an extension to the hotel. The development is located within the zone of archaeological potential for the historic town of Adare. In addition, the Dunraven Arms Hotel is on the Register of Protected Structures: structure number 5 (Local Area Plan for Adare Limerick County Council 2002). A single trench measuring 22m in length was excavated to a maximum depth of 0.6m by 1.5m wide. Nothing of an archaeological nature was recorded during the test-trenching.
