Monitoring took place at Tullylannan townland, Leitrim village, in July 2004. The site of the proposed development is within Leitrim village on the southern side of the bridge. A large portion of the site fronts onto the canal close to where it meets the River Shannon. The site is near an earthworks site and not far from Leitrim Castle (SMR 27:26). The proposed development is to include five apartment blocks, a hotel, a 38-berth marina opening onto the canal, access and related services. All topsoil-stripping associated with the proposed development was monitored. A separate portion of the development located along the main access to the existing site, consisting of eight townhouses and related services, had previously been tested (Excavations 2003, No. 1120, 03E0247). No archaeological features or finds were revealed during the testing or the monitoring of topsoil removal.
