The proposed development site is located on the east side of the main Carrick/Manorhamilton road, north of the bridge in Leitrim village. The development will consist of the demolition of parts of the existing building, the extension of the shop and the construction of further shop units with apartments above. The site is near the remains of Leitrim Castle, of which only a small portion of the bawn wall remains, integrated into the rear property boundary. Monitoring of all excavation works associated with the development was carried out in March 2004. There was no evidence of any archaeological features or finds.
