2004:0943 - PORTARLINGTON: Main Street, Laois

An assessment, including testing, took place at Main Street, Portarlington, Co. Laois. The proposed development includes the subdivision of a commercial unit into two units and to erect two three-storey apartments to the rear of that unit. The proposed development is within the zone of archaeological potential for Portarlington. There is a 19th-century storage shed and associated walls within the development, which are proposed for demolition. These features were also recorded and a visual amenity impact assessment carried out. Five test-trenches were excavated. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during the testing.
