Conservation work required that the interior of the round tower be cleared out. It was cleared of modern debris down to its original floor level and a test-pit measuring less than 500mm2 was excavated through the floor adjacent to the south side of the tower, down to its original construction level. The internal face of the wall had no projecting footing and three levels of clay flooring were uncovered. No finds were retrieved from the original floor levels. A jamb stone of the original doorway of the tower and a stone hanging-eye from an early medieval building along with a number of stones from the walls of the round tower were found in the modern rubble fills in the tower.
