An underwater assessment was carried out at Little Arrigle River, Ballydowan/Earlsgrove, Co. Kilkenny, on 21 December 2004 in relation to the construction of a gas pipeline from Baunlusk, Co. Kilkenny, to Belview, Co. Waterford, by An Bord Gáis. The area under assessment comprised a 100m stretch of the Little Arrigle River. Throughout this area, a clay-banked, stone, gravel and sand riverbed was noted. A number of ferrous or non-ferrous materials were contained within the riverbed but none were identified as archaeological. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the assessment.
