Testing was undertaken in advance of a planning application with respect to development works at Knockaulin House, Knockaulin, Kilcullen, Co. Kildare. The subject site is located within the zone of archaeological potential associated with the archaeological complex of Knockaulin/Dún Áilline (SMR 28:68) and in the immediate environs of a possible enclosure site (SMR 28:61). The exact location of the latter site is unknown, but a manuscript source in the National Library of Ireland dating to the 1820s indicates that it may have been located outside the northern boundary of the subject site.
Four trenches were excavated by both machine and hand within the site. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered.
