This assessment was carried out in July 2004 in advance of the construction of a private swimming pool. Moate House is located within the zone of archaeological potential for Rathmore town and is listed as a 'Shrunken Settlement' in the register of historic monuments. The proposed development site was c. 50m north of the Anglo-Norman motte from which the name 'Rathmore' derives. No features of archaeological significance were identified during testing.
