Testing was carried out on 3 September 2004 on a greenfield site. A desktop investigation has revealed no record of any feature of a historical or archaeological nature on any maps or archival material on this site. However, an aerial survey of 1967 identified a possible cropmark. The cropmark is roughly circular in shape and is seen as a dip in the field with a scattering of stones. Three trenches were opened using a track machine with a 1m-wide flat toothless bucket. Testing of the central trench revealed that the cropmark is a natural anomaly of gravel which rises very close to the surface and is believed to have been used by local farmers for gravel extraction from the beginning of the 20th century. Testing in the remainder of the field revealed nothing of archaeological significance.
