Testing was undertaken to the west and south of a church and graveyard site located at Killashee Demesne, Naas, Co. Kildare. The testing was undertaken as part of the preparation of an EIS with respect to a proposed mixed residential, commercial and leisure development.
The present church and graveyard may have been constructed on an early ecclesiastical site founded in the 5th century. In addition, in the late 18th and late 19th centuries souterrains were investigated at the site. All of these appear to have been located within the present graveyard (SMR 24:3).
Three trenches were excavated to the south and west of the site to determine if any associated ecclesiastical remains might exist outside the present graveyard wall. In addition, a number of undulations on the surface of a field to the west of the site were investigated. No material of archaeological interest was uncovered during the course of testing.
