Pre-development testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed development to the north of Tralee town in Co. Kerry. The monuments SMR 29:83 and 29:84 are nearby. The development will see the construction of 58 dwelling houses at the site. Twelve trenches were excavated. Seven trenches located in Field 1 had a similar stratigraphy consisting of sod and topsoil overlying an orange/brown clayey subsoil that overlay natural boulder clay. Traces of furrow marks were uncovered in three trenches, while archaeological features were noted in a further three trenches. One of the features was a ditch located in Trench F. This had a very regular cut and no finds and may represent a drainage trench. A similar cut feature was uncovered in Trench E. Other finds of possible archaeological significance included a pit feature with a stone fill in Trench F and two small cut features filled with a peaty clay and moderate charcoal inclusions in Trench H.
