A development of 34 dwellings with associated site services was to be constructed in the townland of Knockanacuig, c. 1.5km west of the urban centre of Tralee. Archaeological works were carried out in two phases. In Phase 1 five trenches were excavated mechanically; together these measured 144m in length and were generally 2.4m wide and 0.25–0.8m deep. They were located throughout the northern half of the site. Topsoil was composed of mid-brown silt and overlay yellow clay subsoil with limestone bedrock in places. In Phase 2 monitoring of topsoil-stripping was undertaken in the southern half of the site because of the 10kV power supply overhead. Topsoil was mid-brown silt with modern debris, including builders' rubble and sherds of pottery throughout. No archaeological deposits were recorded.
