Planning permission was granted for a four-storey development consisting of ten apartments, four commercial units, three office units and ancillary works at Church Street. A single phase of archaeological work that consisted of opening six test-trenches on the footprint of the site was undertaken. The site had been levelled and the building rubble was mixed with the topsoil, which was spread out over the site. The topsoil comprised a mid-brown loamy clay with inclusions of modern rubbish and building rubble. The overburden ranged in depth from 0.15m to 0.45m before subsoil was encountered. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded in any of the trenches.
