Monitoring of ground disturbance related to the construction of a complex of holiday homes was necessary due to the proximity of the development to Dunkerron tower-house. The development involved the construction of nine houses and related access roadways and services and the addition of extensions to twelve existing cottages.
Eight of the nine new cottage sites, services and part of the access routes were stripped of topsoil. The topsoil consisted of a dark-brown humic clayey silt (max. 0.4m thick). The underlying subsoil was a light-greyish-yellow sandy silt. No archaeological features or artefacts were discovered during monitoring. The remaining areas will be stripped in 2005.
