Kerry County Council requested monitoring of the groundworks associated with the construction of twelve dwelling houses and associated ancillary works at the Foreshore, Caherciveen, Co. Kerry. Following consultation with DoEH&LG, testing of the development area was considered to be more appropriate.
A machine with a 1m flat bucket was used to excavate test-trenches along the footprints of the proposed house foundations. The topsoil was a sandy clay with many shale stones. The natural subsoil was a yellow/orange clay. Shale bedrock was exposed in the area of site number 5.
No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded.
