Testing of a proposed development site at Bunagarha, Listowel, Co. Kerry, was undertaken as part of an assessment. The development consisted of the construction of five houses on a greenfield site, one of which (House site 2) was located within or immediately adjacent to a largely levelled ringfort. Thirteen trenches were excavated within the proposed development area, three of which were excavated in House site 2 in the area of the ringfort. Potential archaeological features consisting of postholes and linear features were uncovered in Trenches 2 and 3, but no archaeological features or deposits were noted in Trench 1. Evidence for modern agricultural activity in the form of plough furrows was uncovered in all thirteen trenches but was particularly intensive in the area of the levelled ringfort. No further archaeological finds or features were uncovered elsewhere on the proposed development site.
