Visual inspection and magnetometer survey by handheld metal detection was employed to assess the archaeological potential of the seabed, intertidal zone and foreshore area of Caladh Mór Bay. The work was undertaken prior to the proposed extension of Cora Caladh Pier and the construction of a new breakwater at that location. Diver-based assessment extended 50m north, 20m east and 100m west of the proposed pier structure. The intertidal zone, running from the southernmost section of Cora Caladh Pier to the north side of Caladh Mór Pier, was field-walked at low water. The foreshore area, comprising sand-dune structures and a large pasture field, was also fieldwalked. No archaeologically significant features were identified. The assessment was undertaken on 17 February 2004.
