A development of retail and multi-storey carpark is located just outside the west edge of Tuam town and on the south edge of the River Nanny. When this site was being developed for car parking some 40 years ago, the black clay topsoil (0.4m thick average) was covered over with gravel fill 0.6–1.05m thick. Thirteen test-trenches revealed these layers all sitting on a grey sticky marl or yellow dauby gravel, but nothing of archaeological significance was revealed.
