Testing was undertaken at Milltown, Co. Galway, on 3 December 2002, in advance of the development of a local community water treatment plant. The site was near SMR 16:89, a children's burial ground. Six trenches were excavated.
All were excavated to a minimum length of 30m and in an east-west direction to follow the land contours in the area. Trenches in the low-lying south of the site were excavated to boulder clay c. 0.6m below ground level. Trenches on higher ground further north were excavated to boulder clay, typically c. 0.2m below ground level. No archaeological features were noted in any of the trenches.
Editor's note: Though carried out in 2002, this summary was received too late for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
