Test excavation was carried out on the site of a proposed dwelling at Fahymactibbot, Co. Galway, on 10 September 2004. The site is partly located within the area of archaeological constraint around a ringfort. There are no surface traces of the monument and a house and garden now occupy its site. However, the field boundary wall, which forms the south-west boundary of the development site and is also the townland boundary, respects the curve of the possible outer enclosing element of the monument.
Testing comprised the mechanical excavation of four trenches on the footprint of the proposed development. The stratigraphy was uniform with light-grey/brown silty sand topsoil, 0.25m deep, overlying light-yellow/brown silty sand subsoil in all trenches. Patches of grey silty sand and gravel natural were also noted across the site, most frequently on the rising ground to the north-west. No archaeological material was discovered.
