Pre-development testing was undertaken at the development of a single dwelling house and associated services at Castletown, Gort, Co. Galway. The site is located in the vicinity of the site of a ringfort and souterrain (SMR 123:30). No trace of the monument survives above ground today. Three trenches were mechanically excavated in the course of testing at the site. The stratigraphy revealed consisted of sod and topsoil overlying a natural gravel. No artefacts or features of archaeological significance were uncovered.
