Five trenches were mechanically excavated in the course of pre-development testing at Carrowkeel, Moylough, near an enclosure. In Trench A the removal of sod and topsoil revealed a stony orange/brown subsoil that extended for a depth of 0.35m and overlay the natural gravel layer. In Trench B sod and topsoil 0.3m deep overlay gravel and rock. The stratigraphy encountered in Trenches C-E was similar, with a stony subsoil revealed directly below the topsoil. A natural yellow/grey sandy gravel layer was found directly below this subsoil. No artefacts or features of archaeological significance were encountered in the course of testing.
