Test excavation was carried out on the site of a proposed dwelling at Banagher, Co. Galway, on 7 September 2004. The site is partly located within the area of archaeological constraint around a ringfort. A JCB excavator fitted with a toothless digging bucket was retained to open five trenches on the footprint of the proposed development. Grey/brown sandy silt topsoil averaging 0.3m in thickness overlay grey/brown and yellow/brown silty/clayey sand subsoil. No archaeological material was discovered.
