Tallaght village lies at the foot of the Dublin Mountains on the Dublin-Blessington road and is known in history as the seat of a monastery founded in AD 766–792 by St Maelruan, leader of the anchoritic movement. Testing of an area outlined for an extension to the side of the Nationwide building did not reveal evidence for any archaeological material.
