An impact assessment took place for a proposed twenty-house development site located outside the town of Newcastle, Co. Dublin. The site is near a recorded monument, Newcastle, SMR 20:3, 21:17, which is located less than 0.5km north of the site. Four trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed houses/apartments and two along the proposed access road. One test-pit was excavated at the entrance to the site.
Five features were discovered and partially recorded on site. They appear to represent post-medieval agricultural features and are of no archaeological significance. One feature, F3 in Trench 3, which consisted of a filled circular cut measuring 1.5m by 0.6m by 0.1m, will require further assessment.
