Testing was undertaken at 1 Main Street, Lucan. A single trench was excavated in the footprint of the proposed extension. Three archaeological features were identified. Two of these are likely to relate to 19th-century tenements which would have stood on the site prior to the construction of the bank. The other feature consisted of a clay-bonded foundation, which contained a small fragment of probable medieval pottery, although this may have been intrusive. This foundation would appear to have supported the front wall of a building which would have fronted on to Main Street. Landscaping of the site during the construction of the bank removed all further evidence for the building. Further investigation during groundworks associated with the construction of the bank extension failed to identify any further archaeological remains in the footprint of the development.
