Monitoring was carried out during the insertion of two heating pipes in the Provost's Garden in July 2004. The garden lies to the south-east of the Provost's House and directly south of the west range of Parliament Square (Front Square). The foundations of an original northern boundary wall were located and these were dated to the mid-18th century. The monitoring also revealed that the ground level had been filled with rubble and mortar deposits, to a depth of 1.8m, in two different phases.
