Test excavation of this site had been carried out in January 2004, with negative results. The site lies upstream from the medieval 'Woodenmills' and includes the Poddle watercourse (SMR 18:43(04)). Monitoring of groundworks was required. The watercourse had been culverted in recent times by the Drainage Department of Dublin City Council. This structure was not to be altered in the redevelopment. Most of the site had been in use as a surface carpark.

Clearance of the topsoil showed a considerable degree of disturbance, with service trenches inserted and grading having previously taken place. Finds were of very recent date and included 20th-century china and bottle glass. No finds or features of archaeological significance were present on this site.
