An assessment was carried out at this site situated outside the medieval walled town but within the zone of archaeological potential. It fronts onto Dame Lane, Dublin 2, to the rear of Dame Street, and consists of a backfilled 20th-century basement structure. The assessment took the form of a mechanically excavated test-pit that failed to reach sub-basement level. As a result, no archaeological deposits were recorded. The backfilled material consisted of dry hardcore. The developer proposes to fully excavate the backfilled hardcore in advance of construction.
