The development includes the demolition of existing structures and the construction of a retail premises, licensed restaurant and hotel. Monitoring was carried out from 13 February to 6 March 2004. The existing buildings consisted of a pharmacy, retail outlet and nightclub. All contained cellars and the nightclub also contained a lower ground floor with rest room. The demolition of the existing buildings, the underpinning to the adjacent building, including 'Café en Seine' and a Christian retail outlet, and the removal of the original foundations was monitored. The interior of 26 South Anne Street was left untouched, as one of the planning stipulations ordered that the interior be restored Once the original foundations were removed, a boulder-clay-like soil was exposed. This was sterile, containing no artefacts or structures. This layer measured c. 1.5m and overlay bedrock. There were no finds or features of archaeological significance on the site.
