Centre-line and offset testing along the route of the N7 Naas road widening and interchanges scheme from Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, to the Kildare/Dublin county boundary was carried out in April 2004 using a machine fitted with a flat grading bucket. A linear trench with staggered offsets was excavated across all areas of land-take.

Two sites of archaeological potential were identified during testing and were later excavated by Carmel Duffy. One was located to the north of the existing dual carriageway in Bustyhill (No. 475, Excavations 2004, 04E0857) and the other to the south side in Steelstown (No. 643, Excavations 2004, 04E0858).
