Monitoring of groundworks was required for the installation of three electricity poles at Brackenagh West Road, Ballykeel, Newry, in June 2004. The central pole was within the immediate vicinity of a rath (SMR 56:18). The small trench intended for the pole was manually excavated. Topsoil consisted of light-greyish-brown sandy loam and directly overlay subsoil, compact light-yellowish-orange sandy clay. No archaeological deposits were present.
