Testing works were carried out as part of planning permission granted for the construction of a shop and overhead apartment in the centre of Lifford town. Three trenches were opened on the site. Natural stratigraphy was located very close to the surface in the trench nearest to the street. This may well reflect the natural slope of the site. Components of the overburden on the site all suggest that this deposit is the result of modern infill and/or dumping which has occurred over the recent past. No archaeological discoveries were made that could in any way be associated with 16th–17th-century Lifford.
