An excavation, funded by Donegal County Council and the National Roads Authority, was completed in advance of the proposed N15 Bundoran to Ballyshannon bypass.
Linear testing (Excavations 2003, No. 427, 03E1015) was carried out by Billy Quinn along the route of the proposed scheme in summer 2003. Finner 1 was identified as a cairn (possible clearance cairn) in Plot 83, Test Area 8, during the testing exercise. This feature was deliberately not tested during the Stage 1 test excavation programme.
Excavation revealed nothing of archaeological significance. It was clear that the site consisted of a small rock outcrop, which was subsequently the focus of small-scale field clearance. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the excavation.
