Monitoring was undertaken at the site at Drumlonagher, Donegal, in compliance with a condition of planning. Monitoring of the removal of a thin layer of sod and topsoil revealed a sticky grey/brown natural marl layer. This layer was found throughout the site and no features of archaeological significance were noted. In addition to the topsoil-stripping, a portion of the excavation of soil to facilitate the construction of commercial units was also monitored, and this revealed that the sticky natural marl extended for a depth of up to 0.7m.
