Upon completion of the North-West Pipeline, BGE (NI) intends to construct the Aghadowey to Ballymoney spur line, starting at the Aghadowey AGI and running for a distance of 8km terminating at a new AGI situated on the eastern bank of the River Bann in Macfinn Lower, some 7.5km to the southeast of Coleraine. Nine trial-trenches were investigated at three locations on the pipeline as part of an agreed programme of preconstruction evaluation.

Topsoil was stripped from the nine trenches, three each in Ballydevitt and Gills townlands, Co. Derry, and three in Colebreene Upper townland, Co. Antrim (see No. 41 above), using a mechanical excavator fitted with a flat-bottomed, toothless bucket. No archaeological remains were found in any of the trial-trenches.
