As part of a pre-development assessment of the proposed development area at Seafield, Youghal, twelve test-trenches were excavated across the site. Two small subcircular features were identified in Trench 9. Struck flint was recovered from the northernmost of the two features.
Subsequently an area measuring 10m by 10m was excavated centred on the two features. In addition a 30m area was stripped of topsoil around a previously unrecorded standing stone. With the exception of the two features identified in the testing, no further archaeology was identified at the site. The two features appeared to be small pits. The fills were charcoal-rich and contained a large amount of struck flint. The flint was undiagnostic and probably represents the waste from flint working. No datable finds were recovered.
