An underwater survey lasting one day was undertaken in June 2004 at the site of the construction of two proposed outfall pipes associated with the proposed development of a sewerage collection system at Schull, Co. Cork. The proposed system was comprised of a wastewater treatment plant, outfall pipes and a rising main. The assessment was undertaken of an area of seabed 50m either side of the centre-line of the proposed outfalls. Desktop surveys recorded a number of monuments in the vicinity of the development, none of which were immediately adjacent to the development zones.
The diver/visual survey at the two outfall sites did not record the presence of any archaeological remains. The metal detector survey recorded a small number of contacts, some of which were seen to be modern.
