A test excavation was carried out at Donegall East, Ringarogy Island, Baltimore, as part of a planning application for the restoration of a vernacular house located 120m to the south of Donegall Castle. The development involved the demolition of a modern lean-to and the construction of an extension to the gable end of the house. The excavation of three test-trenches indicated that no archaeological features associated with the original castle were present in the vicinity of the development site.
