Testing was undertaken, on behalf of Cork County Council, on the route of the N8 Mitchelstown relief road. It involves the construction of 4.5km of the N8 from Cloonlough, south of Mitchelstown, to the junction of the R513 and the N8, north of Mitchelstown.
During the course of testing (04E0890, No. 312, Excavations 2004), in addition to the programme of centre-line and offset testing, two target test-trenches (CH Site 15) were excavated at Chainage 0000 to investigate a raised subcircular earthen area noted in the EIS. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded in the trenches.
