Visual inspection and magnetometer survey by handheld metal detection was employed to assess the archaeological potential of two areas of seabed prior to the proposed dredging of the existing approach channel to Castletownbere Harbour. A significant buffer zone of 20–40m either side of the proposed dredging activity was incorporated into the dive survey. The assessment area measured c. 140m by 780m. No archaeologically significant features were identified. Assessment was undertaken on 16 July 2004.
