An underwater archaeological survey lasting one day took place in June 2004 at the site of the construction of two proposed outfall pipes, one at Treganarin in Baltimore and the second adjacent to the Baltimore lifeboat station. The construction of these outfalls was associated with the proposed development of a sewerage collection system at Baltimore, Co. Cork. The proposed system comprised a wastewater treatment plant, outfall pipes and a rising main.
The assessment was undertaken of an area of seabed 50m either side of the centre-line of the proposed outfalls. Pre-inspection desktop surveys recorded a number of archaeological monuments in the vicinity of the development, none of which were immediately adjacent to the development zones.
The diver/visual survey did not record the presence of any archaeological remains. The metal-detection survey recorded a small number of contacts, some of which were seen to be modern.
