Testing was carried out in advance of the insertion of services associated with the redevelopment of The Mills Inn licensed premises. The development is located in the immediate vicinity of an ornamental tower and bridge. The tower and its associated structure were used as a courthouse and barracks in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Three trenches were excavated across the site, each measuring 10m in length by 1.5m wide. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted during the testing.
