Two trenches were mechanically excavated in the course of pre-development testing at Kilkee Upper, beside a fish pond. The stratigraphy encountered in both trenches was similar and consisted of a grey-brown sandy topsoil (c. 0.2-0.25m deep) which overlay a grey-yellow, sticky natural boulder clay with occasional small and medium-sized stones. The boulder clay was excavated for a depth of 0.4m. The excavation did not reveal any features of archaeological significance.
