It is proposed to convert the disused Bank of Ireland building to retail, office and restaurant use. Part of the development will result in the creation of a mezzanine floor level internally and test-trenches have yet to be cut. In a garden at the rear of the building, it is proposed to construct a three-storey extension. Part of one test-trench has been cut in this garden, but work had to be abandoned due to a depth of over 2.5m of fill. No archaeology was detected, but it was decided to postpone the excavation of the remaining trenches until the perimeter walls have been removed. The dressed stone wall and ornate doorway on the south-west side will be reinserted into the new wall on the north-west face, and this work will also be monitored.
