A burnt-stone spread of possible prehistoric date was found during testing on the N18 Ennis bypass (Excavations 2003, No. 127, 03E1291). The archaeological deposits were destroyed by a contractor rerouting services for the new road. The burnt spread was recorded in detail at testing and had maximum dimensions of 10m (north-south) by 8m and was 0.35m thick. The spread (or perhaps 'mound') was made of burnt limestone pieces with charcoal flecking. No evidence of a trough was seen.
