A shallow oval pit (4m by 1.6m and 0.28m deep) on the N18 Ennis bypass in a sheltered area close to the bottom of a natural slope had a charcoal-rich fill which indicated that a small fire was lit twice in quick succession. No objects were found to date these events, but samples of charred wood recovered from the remains may give a date for the felling of the tree.
